Bats

Today we learned some fun facts about bats.
We learned:
1. Bats are warm blooded. 
2. They have fur. 
3. Bats eat different things...like fruit, insects, etc. 
4. Scientist have found that bats existed for 50 million years. 
5. They are nocturnal.
6. They hang upside down to sleep. They like to sleep in caves, tree tops, and under bridges.
7. Baby bats are born without fur.
8. They make rapid high-pitched squeaks called ultrasounds. These sounds are too high for  most people to hear. If these sounds hot something, they bounce back. The bat hears the echo and can tell where the object is located. This is called echolocation. 

After we graphed if we thought bats were cute or creepy and then completed a crafts.

Trick or Treat

Yesterday we started our unit on Halloween by reading the story, Where's My Mummy. After we discussed how it's important to stay with our parents when we are out in public. After we made our own mummies. 

Today Mrs. Jessica came and did a lesson with the children. She continued to talk to the children about following directions, have a zipper lip and glue on their bottom. Then, she introduced Superflex and Glass man to the class. 
Here is a little background on this: Superflex is a Superhero Social Thinking Curriculum provides educators and parents fun and motivating ways to teach students with social and communication difficulties. The three part  cognitive behavioral curriculum helps students to develop further awareness of their own thinking and social behaviors and learn strategies to help them develop better self-regulation across a range of these behaviors.
Glassman is one of the unthinkable. He causes our over-reactions to small things. Mrs. Jessica showed the children a video of a child over-reacting and then let the children take turns.

Monster Week Wrap Up

We had SO much fun talking about monsters last week. To end our unit, the children made a monster glyph. 
Girls- red
Boy- orange
Number of dots- how old you are
number teeth- how many brothers/sisters do you have

Monster Mash

On Monday, we started our fun unit of monsters. We kicked it off by reading Where the Wild Things Are. After the children made their own Max and told us what they would do if they were wild. 

Yesterday Mrs. Jessica came and completed a lesson with the children. She focused on talking to the children about being a part of the group. She also showed them a video of children listening and following directions. After, the children had a listening activity that they completed. 

Today, we read the story Go Away Big Green Monster. We talked about how it's ok to be scared of monsters but they are pretend. After, we made our own green monster. 


Last week the children each made a different type of transportation and today they were made into a transportation mural! Check it out:

I'm totally in love with all the awesome art work that the children are doing with Mrs. Douglas in Art class. Check out the adorable bats and moons.

Transportation

Yesterday we started our unit on transportation. We began our discussion by making a list of different types of transportation. Then we sorted pictures by if they are on land, sea, or air. 

Then the children completed their own sorting sheet.

Today the children made cars by gluing tissue paper to paper plates. 

Community Helpers

Last week we learned all about Community Helpers. 

On Tuesday, we discussed the definition of a Community Helper. Then we came up with a list of them and talked about how each one helps us. After, Mrs. Jessica came and reviewed with the children about using their magic tool, raising their hand, and not being a blurt out blue. 

On Wednesday, we read "A Day at the Fire Station" and discussed fireman. After the children made an adorable Fireman.

Thursday we read the book "Doctor" and learned about how doctors help us. Then the children made themselves as a doctor and told us how they would help people. 

We ended our unit by talking about chefs, making a chef hat and icing cookies. It was a fun day!
