Monster Mash

On Monday, we started our fun unit of monsters. We kicked it off by reading Where the Wild Things Are. After the children made their own Max and told us what they would do if they were wild. 

Yesterday Mrs. Jessica came and completed a lesson with the children. She focused on talking to the children about being a part of the group. She also showed them a video of children listening and following directions. After, the children had a listening activity that they completed. 

Today, we read the story Go Away Big Green Monster. We talked about how it's ok to be scared of monsters but they are pretend. After, we made our own green monster. 

Last week the children each made a different type of transportation and today they were made into a transportation mural! Check it out:

I'm totally in love with all the awesome art work that the children are doing with Mrs. Douglas in Art class. Check out the adorable bats and moons. 

Transportation

Yesterday we started our unit on transportation. We began our discussion by making a list of different types of transportation. Then we sorted pictures by if they are on land, sea, or air. 

Then the children completed their own sorting sheet.

Today the children made cars by gluing tissue paper to paper plates. 

Community Helpers

Last week we learned all about Community Helpers. 

On Tuesday, we discussed the definition of a Community Helper. Then we came up with a list of them and talked about how each one helps us. After, Mrs. Jessica came and reviewed with the children about using their magic tool, raising their hand, and not being a blurt out blue. 

On Wednesday, we read "A Day at the Fire Station" and discussed fireman. After the children made an adorable Fireman.

Thursday we read the book "Doctor" and learned about how doctors help us. Then the children made themselves as a doctor and told us how they would help people. 

We ended our unit by talking about chefs, making a chef hat and icing cookies. It was a fun day!

Our week...so far...

Yesterday we started off our assessments week by completing a counting book. The children had to rainbow write the number and put that many stickers on their page. 

At Prayer center, we are learning about St. Francis and making this adorable puppet.

Today Mrs. Jessica came and did a lesson with children. She taught them about not being a blurt out blue but instead to use your magic tool...your hand. She practiced this with the class. After she read them a story about being part of the group and then discussed it with the children. 

For our assessment today, the children had to sort letters and numbers by coloring. 

Tomorrow we are going to work on a shape book. 

A Camping We Will Go...

On Monday, we started our unit on camping by talking all about going camping. Then we helping out two friends come up with all the items they will need to go camping. 

This week the children have been reviewing their sight words and learned 

At Prayer center, the children learned about the Holy Spirit. We learned that Jesus told Hid friend that when he went to Heaven, God would send another person to help them. This person is the Holy Spirit. He helps us when we are sad and helps us remember to do right. We learned that we can't see the Holy Spirit but he is always with us. 

On Tuesday, we learned some fun facts about skunks and then make one!

Here are just some of the facts we learned: 

Skunks are mammals that have black and white colored fur. There are 10 species of skunks. They can live in open, shrub, wooded and urban areas. 

They have poor eyesight, but they have excellent sense of smell and hearing.

Skunks are omnivores, which mean that they eat both plants and animals.

Two glands that produce smelly substance that is released when animals are threatened.

Wednesday we watched a flight of fireflies on the Smart Board and learned some facts about them.

Fireflies talk to each other with their light. 

Fireflies eggs glow.

Fireflies are found on almost every continent. 

Fireflies don't taste good.

Thursday we learned all about owls and listened to different owls hoots. 

Here are some facts we learned:

Owls are active at night (nocturnal).

Owls have powerful talons (claws) which help them catch their food.

Owls have large eyes and a flat face.

Owls can turn their heads as much as 270 degrees.

Owls are farsighted, meaning they can’t see things close to their eyes clearly.

Owls are very quiet in flight.

The color of owl’s feathers helps them blend into their environment (camouflage).

 We had a BLAST at our camp out today. We turned off the lights, sat on our sleeping bag under the "stars" and ate s'more pops.

5 Senses

On Wednesday, we continued our unit on our 5 senses by having the children help my solve a problem. I can two bags and I forgot which one was salt and which one was sugar. The children had to use all their senses to figure out the answer. We all got to look, smell, hear, touch, and taste the items in the bags. We concluded which bag was which and agreed that our senses of taste helped us the most.  

On Thursday, we used out senses of touch to help us with another problem. I gave the children 6 closed bags and they took turns feeling the items and figuring out what was inside. 

The children all made some really good guesses... 

  

 Today we talked more about Churches. We learned what we see inside and outside of a Church. We also talked about why we go to Church and how we should act in Church.

We had a super fun and busy week but I can't wait for our camping week!

5 Senses

We had an amazing day kicking off our week with the letter X. 

We listened to the x song, HERE, and learned our sight word for the week, to, and listened to its song, HERE. 

Then we talked out our five senses.

We watched a short video on the Smart Board about our sense, HERE. Then we looked at pictures and graphed which sense we use with it.

After the children made their own 5 Senses Tree Map.

The children started their rotation to Prayer Center today. We talked about Churches and the things we see inside and outside a church. We discuss how that's God's house and where his family, us, go to pray to him. Then we made a church out of an envelope and made our Popsicle stick family to go in it.
