Healthy and Not Healthy...

This week we kicked off our unit by reading the story "Getting Enough to Eat". We explored how our body needs food and what type of food it needs. We looked at the Food Pyramid and then sorted healthy and not healthy food.

Then we played some fun games on the Smart Board.

I have to brag on these SMART children are in this class. Here is our morning message from this morning. Not all are they doing an amazing job filling in the blanks but they are starting to memorizing the sentences.

Today we talked more about healthy and not healthy food. The children looked through grovery ads and found healthy items to glue in their grocery cart. Thank you for sending the ads in...the children enjoyed it.

Bats and Spiders

We started off our Halloween unit by having Mrs. Schmitz come and complete a guidance lesson with the children. She talked to the children about next week being Red Ribbon week. She discuss with the children that they should only take medicine from their parents, teacher, or doctor.

Yesterday we learned about BATS! We watched a video and found out many fun facts.
Bats are nocturnal.
They ‘see’ in the dark using a special skill called echolocation. Bats make noises and wait for the sound waves to bounce back off objects (an echo), if it doesn’t bounce back then they can safely fly forward. They can tell the distance of various objects by how quickly the sound waves bounce back to them.
Most bats feed on insects, while others eat fruit, or fish!
Then we graphed if we thought bats are cute or creepy.
We also made some adorable bats!
Today we learned some fun facts about spiders.
Spiders are not insects.
Spiders spin webs to catch other bugs to eat, but not all spiders make webs!
Most spiders live on land, but a few, like the raft spiders, live in and on water. These spiders can “run” across the water’s surface.
Spiders have short hairs on their feet that allow them to walk upside down on ceilings and over glass.
Spiders are found everywhere in the world except for the cold polar regions of the Arctic and Antarctic.
ome spiders eat their old web before starting a new one. Others roll the old web up and throw it away. Web spiders rebuild their web each day!

Then we made these adorable spiders.

Hump Day

Yesterday morning the children did an AMAZING job with out morning message. They were so proud that they found ALL the lighting words (sight words) in the message. I love to see how much something so simple has impacted their learning in many ways. I have a bunch of smart cookies!
We've some new "fancy words" to our focus wall: pretend and yesterday!

We worked on our journals yesterday and drew monsters.
Then we practiced writing the letter M in our handwriting workbook.

Monsters...

Yesterday we started our fun unit on Monsters. We started our unit by reading the story "Where the Wild Things Are" and then we made Max. The children then told me what they do when they feel wild, I got tons of fun answers!

Then we learning a new fancy word PRETEND. We talked about other things that are pretend and made a list.

We also listened to the M song and came up with items that begin with M. Then we learned a new sight word, go, and listened to its song, HERE.

Today we read the story "Go Away Big Green Monster" and talked about how it's ok to be scared and what we can do when we get scared. Then we made our own Big Green Monster.

At Prayer Center this week the children listened to the story of the baby in the basket. They learned about Moses and how he became a leader of God's people.

On Friday we ended our unit on transportation by making a mural. Each table made a different type of transportation to create this...

Trains!!!!

On Wednesday we read a story about trains and made name trains. The children did a great job finding the letters in their name and put them in order!
We have learned a new sight word, UP, and we listened to its song, HERE! These songs are amazing as the children walk around the classroom singing them all day!

Yesterday Mrs. Schmitz came and talked to the children more about the Zones of Regulations.

At Religion center the children are learning the Guardian Angel prayer and about Guardian Angels. Then they are making this adorable craft:

I have to let you know how much I'm loving our new morning message. Here is a peek at the one we completed yesterday!
Morning message is a great way to give the children pride by finding something that they know! It also helps the children understand that reading begins from left to right, learning to sound out words by "stretching" out the sounds, reviewing letter sounds and numbers, learning that a sentence begins with capital letters and ends with a punctuation mark, learning the sentences need a space between words, identify sight words, identify beginning and ending sounds, and MUCH MUCH MORE!

Today we are going to make a transportation mural!

Transportation Week

Today we kicked off our week by introducing the letter T, listened to its sound and its song!

On Friday, Mrs. Roxanne and I went to a session on Morning Message that was AWESOME!We spiced up our morning message today.
This is what is originally looked like.

This is how it looked like after. The children took turns coming up and finding something that they knew and helped me fill in the blanks.
Then we learned more about transportation and sorted them.
Then we went to the Les Passess Puppet show were we learned about sharing and stop, drop, and roll.
